I had a smooth bore slug barrel on my 870 before switching to a rifled. The smooth bore will be accurate with rifled slugs out to about 50 yards. A rifled choke tube will help extend that by a few yards but not much. even with the buckshot pattern at 25 yards, you can see the left barrel has a impact spread more towards the left while the right barrel is more centered. so yes, a double barrel shotgun can be useful for slugs, but you must first get in some target work and see what each of those barrels will do and at what distance. You will no doubt void the warranty if you do this. I don't especially like cantilever barrels mounts, more of a looks issue for me than anthing else, but it's about the best way to get a fully rifled slug barrel with scope to sight in consistently due to the way the barrel locks into the receiver. Bird shot or buck shot or Forster type rifled slugs will result in severe barrel leading and lousy accuracy and/or patterns.
